It has more clarity by far, more dynamics, more dynamic contrast by a long ways, more resolution. The Vali 2++ is duller and more smoothed over, less resolving, less fine detail and grit. The Vali 3 has a bit of that Jason hyper dynamic sound to it, but not nearly as much as Jottenheim or Mjolner3. The transients are somewhat less rounded than Vali 2, the effect is more in the highs than the lows. Lows transients and articulation improvement is marginal. Tube rolling with Vali 2+ so far seems to yield more discernable differences. With Vali 2, it really didn’t seem to matter that much. Like x 6. The Vali 2+ is different from the Vali 2 in these respects. More present highs – less dark. More lively, more resolving, more engaging similar to the Vali 1 (in retrospect, Vali 2 was a step and a half forward, but a step back). I think the Vali 1 still has a small edge in immediacy, but the Vali 1 also has some issues with the super tube … In many ways, the Vali reminds me of the Grado RS-1, not in terms of frequency response, but in terms of responsiveness, speed and even timbre. Think of this of the Russian version of the RS-1, but with much better tonal balance and deeper higher quality bass. Horribad well used WE396a on adapter on Vali 2+. The WE396A is warmer and richer sounding than the 6922/6DJ8 in the Vali 2+. Here is a measurement of a pristine one below. Note significantly higher second order and third order (15db and 30db) harmonics and an additional forth harmonic that the 6922 does not have. Laptop to Schiit Bifrost 2 to Schiit Vali 3 and coming out of Grado GH2’s. 1) GE Five Stars. The sound is just about perfect to my ears, but is not at all tubey. 2) If you want tubey, the 6N3P I picked up is perfect. If you want Really tubey, you will like the stock tube. 3) GE JAN 5670W. Really nice open sound. The Vali coaster sounds darker and duller than the OG Vali. This is probably because the coaster version’s tubes run at a lower voltage, thus are in less linear operating range, more distorted. The Wyrd tends to focus the transients and open up the headstage, and in this case did exactly that. Also, the Vali 2+ throws a more holographic image that I don’t experience with solid state amplifiers. Bass has excellent slam and texture. It’s not one-note and reproduces what the artist intended. If the recording has lingering bloom, the Vali 2+ reproduces it. If the artist wanted fast bass transients, the Vali 2+ has no issues with that. Specifications : Driver Unit 50 mm. Frequency Response 10-28000 Hz. Sensitivity 100 dB. Impedance 32 Ohm. Maximum Input Power 500 mW. Cord length 2 m detachable 4-pin mini XLR OFC cable (3.5 mm) 990$. The Driver included in this headphone is made by Tymphany ( guidelines and basic specs provided by @Drakkard from Kennerton ) . THD+N / SINAD has gotten so stoopid to the point where Schiit now lists specs for the Midgard as follows (LOL): Power: plenty for all headphones except maybe Tungsten. Noise: inaudible on all headphones and IEMs. Distortion: unmeasurable at normal listening levels; 1000x lower than the typical headphones you’re using.
