Synopsis: Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, per la prima volta tre donne americane furono fotoreporter ufficiali sul fronte europeo: Martha Gellhorn (1908-1998), moglie di Ernest Hemingway dal 1940 al 1945 e amica di Eleanor Roosevelt; Margaret Bourke-White (1904-1971), che era stata un’altra delle grandi fotografe del New Deal; e Lee Miller (1907-1977), ex compagna di Man Ray e legata alle avanguardie artistiche. Luzia Schmid ricostruisce tre vite parallele attingendo a materiale spesso inedito, di grandissima drammaticità e qualità visiva, che riguarda soprattutto la liberazione dei lager di Ravensbrück, Buchenwald e Dachau, e la sconfitta della Germania. Fu un’esperienza che segnò profondamente tutte e tre; ma è stato grazie anche al loro occhio che l’Occidente ha cominciato a percepire la guerra in modo diverso, senza retorica maschilista: come una tragedia.
