My experiments using “here” to begin a sentence as an adjective or noun resulted in awkward and clumsy artificial constructions. I didn’t think it should count when I use the word “here” to refer to itself: Here refers to the word “here” in this sentence. As for your example, I find “Here, first” to be unnatural. The two examples above have here following a noun. Most dictionaries say “here” is an adverb. I am wondering why it is used as an postnominal adjective in these two sentences. You may explain that “here” is actually “in here”. Then it makes sense. “In here”, a prepositional phrase, can modify the noun. I would like to hear what you guys think. 26. “Here’s to …” is a phrase used when making a toast. It means “Here is a toast to …”, at which point it is customary to raise your glass. The phrase has a life of its own, used by a speaker or writer expresses a situation that calls for a toast-like salute to something. The “Here is” part can be omitted also. Googling around, it seems like it might be an internet meme. I would also say that ‘well, well’ is the original which expanded to ‘well, well, well’. Also as @FumbleFingers suggests, ‘What have we here’ is probably the more common phrasing. This might be a variation on the: “’ello, ’ello, ’ello. What’s going on here then?” On reflection and looking at all the actual instances of ‘hood’, it does seem like it is being used here as an adjective, almost identically to the way ‘ghetto’ can be used: “They didn’t clean the microwave after they exploded their pizza in it? That’s so ghetto.” –
