• Synopsis: Alla fine del 1944 mentre parte dell’Europa è stata liberata dal giogo nazista, ad Haarlem in Olanda i tedeschi ci sono ancora. Una sera, alla periferia della città, un collaborazionista locale viene ucciso proprio davanti a una villetta di un gruppo di tre. I cinque colpi di rivoltella sono uditi anche dai componenti della famiglia del prof. Steenwijk e il figlio minore, il dodicenne Anton, vede un cadavere steso nella neve antistante la casa. Anton sarà il solo scampato alla immediata reazione dei nazisti, piombati sul luogo: il fratello maggiore non si trova, i genitori sono catturati come colpevoli e la casa data alle fiamme. Affidato ad uno zio residente ad Amsterdam, il ragazzo pian piano sente svanire dalla sua memoria il ricordo di quelle ore terribili, ma gli resta vivo nel cuore solo l’affetto che gli dimostra una sconosciuta chiusa con lui nella cella dove Anton ha passato una notte: una partigiana accusata di aver ucciso un poliziotto.
