Kaburagi Miyako is a 30-year-old "career-oriented" woman working for a major cosmetics company with an annual salary of over 10 million yen. Miyako is suddenly inspired by a painting and aims to study at the Tokyo University of the Arts to fulfill her dream of becoming a painter. Miyako enrolls into an art prep school while balancing her work. There, she meets Taira Shintaro, a talented young man who keeps failing to get into an art college.

A new look at Van Gogh, through the legacy of the largest private collector of artworks by the Dutch painter: Helene Kröller-Müller (1869-1939), who, in the early 20th Century, ended up buying nearly 300 of his works, paintings and drawings included.

The Duch painter Vincent Van Gogh grew up in the family of a stern Calvinist country pastor, feeling a misunderstood misfit, obsessed by painting, while his elder brother Theo left for Brussels, later Paris, and became an art dealer. Vincent tried an alternative career as missionary to the Catlolic Walloon mineworkers in the Ardennes but returns, broke and failed again. Later he'll move in with Theo in Paris, but can't fit in business or society. Vincent heads for frustration and health drama. His heir, a Dutch railway engineer, later visits those places while deciding whether to sell the family paintings collection to invest in the super-fast railroad.

Denis Valevsky is a 45 year-old businessman, he owns a furniture factory. He makes a tough business, quarrels with his bored wife and measures his life clearly - with dollar bills. The only thing to be appreciated is money. But the car accident unexpectedly throws Denis out of his routine. Suddenly he starts noticing things that had never interested him before: forms of flowers, silhouettes on the dress of his wife, unusual wall-paper colors... Inspired by these new abilities Denis spends all of his attention painting, gradually throwing all his businesses out of the head. As a result - he misses a profitable deal, partners recall their money back, and when a young lady artist appears in Denis' life, everything turns to complete confusion...

To say that the renowned Impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh (1853-90) had a dysfunctional family is likely to do a disservice to ordinary dysfunctional families everywhere. In this unusual drama, the family (and one friend) of the troubled artist gather together to participate in the customary ceremonies that are performed when a close relative, in this case, Vincent, dies. While Vincent's brother Theo (Jean-Pierre Lorit) and his three sisters are genuinely grief-stricken, his mother (Maria Meriko) seems to be a truly stony character, and her cold contempt and disregard for her sensitive son appears to be just as great in death as it was in life. Fans of Vincent's art will be particularly appalled by the woman's attitude to her son's vocation, and more so by at her actions.
