Soap-opera about a social-climbing Jewish man and his old-world parents who are heartbroken by his rejection of them. Young Morris Goldfish follows his immigrant father into business. His ruthless business practices cause him to become a big success, and he moves the family to Park Avenue. They go, but were happier back on the East Side. Morris is ashamed of this parents and his humble origins, but learns in the end that there is more to life than money.

The Younger Generation is an ultra-tragic tale about a young girl, played by Ivy Ling Po who gets married, has five kids, then she and her husband die forcing one child sold to prostitution to feed the other four. Chinese culture dictates that great respect is given to the elders and in The Younger Generation, it is an elder that is the hero, telling audiences that although sadness abounds, they can return home happy with their Confucius mindset.

After the deaths of their parents, sister and brother Lan and Cow must take care of their younger siblings. Living hand to mouth, they struggle to overcome unscrupulous employers and unfair labour practices. The Younger Generation, with its humanist perspective on social justice, is the first film co-directed by the husband-and-wife team of Huang Yu and Wu Peirong, and stars Nina Paw, daughter of renowned actor-director Bao Fong, in one of her earliest roles.

Jim Gordon, the son of a proud and loving father, enters the University of California as a student. There he meets Mary Ward, a campus coed who captures his heart on the first day. He becomes close friends with Larry Powell, his roommate, but incurs the wrath of Kenneth Slade, who is unable to take a practical joke. Jim and Larry attend a campus dance with Bessie and Phyllis, two vamps, and through a series of romantic complications Jim tries to convince Mary of his love for her.
