Captain Edward A. Salisbury was a noted millionaire explorer and writer, whose exploration stories of the islands of the South Seas Pacific appeared often in "The National Geographic," and other magazines in the early part of the 20th-century, spent 18 months exploring the New Hebrides islands where head-hunting and cannibalism was practiced by some of the natives. The footage shot by Captain Edward A. Salisbury was put together to make this film. Captain Salisbury explained that 'gow' was the native term for the practice of head-hunting, and was not the name of one of the head-hunters.

In the Land of the Head Hunters is a 1914 silent film fictionalizing the world of the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) peoples of the Queen Charlotte Strait region of the Central Coast of British Columbia, Canada, written and directed by Edward S. Curtis and acted entirely by Kwakwaka'wakw natives. It was the first feature-length film whose cast was composed entirely of Native North Americans; the second, eight years later, was Robert Flaherty's Nanook of the North.

The picture shows Martin Johnson arriving at the island, his reception by the fearsome savages, how he accompanies them inland to one of their villages, and the strange rites and ceremonies that he was permitted to witness, always in danger, and yet never afraid. The picture has several outstanding incidents. The native dances are weird, but nothing compares to the shots that show the natives proudly displaying their trophies of human heads. The monkey men fascinate because they show how closely the lower forms of civilization resemble the apes. Also there are scenes taken among the pigmies, beautiful scenery, shark fishing and excellent views of a volcano in eruption.

Rina, a brilliant head hunter who secures human resources by receiving the "special mission" of the company. Rina's target, which uses her twin sister's body to drop the target, is Oi, a man who can work but has a sloppy female relationship. Oi, who is still working on two female subordinates and has the worst working environment, seems to be quite enthusiastic about this head hunt. However, in addition to Rina, there are rival companies that are embarking on the acquisition of Oi, and it is clearly said that they will make a contract with a person with good conditions. Examining the area around Oi reveals that Oi's wife has an affair with rival company Ishida, and Ishida has a connection with Oi's affair partner woman. Rina suspects that Oi is trying to be fitted by someone's malicious intent in a situation that smells too bad.
