Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright gained renown for his designs in America, but he drew great inspiration from Japan, where he worked for several years. This documentary explores his experiences in Japan and his influence on Japanese architecture. By examining the monuments Wright created in Japan, such as an embassy, a school and hotels, the program offers viewers insight into the brilliant architect's genius as well as his Japanese obsession.

A brilliant collection of beautifully animated episodes based on selected masterpieces of Japanese modern literature. The aim of this series is to appeal to the viewer at large and to give him or her some idea of the variety and individuality which Japanese literature has developed over the last hundred years. The authors range from Higuchi Ichiyou (Takekurabe), Mori Ougai (The Dancing Girl) and Natsume Souseki (Botchan) to Kawabata Yasunari (The Izu Dancer), Nobel laureate of 1968, and Mishima Yukio (The Sound of Waves).

Something that we struggle with daily, that eats us up and causes stress and anger: annoying people. You know those people. Unreasonable complainers, obnoxious drunk people, rude cab drivers, snobby salesperson, loud teenagers with no manners, and so on. Hosted by Teruyoshi Uchimura of the comedy duo Ucchan Nanchan, this show features short dramatic reenactments of real-life situation where someone beats those “bad guys” through cleverness and wit. In every episode, the well-reputed supporting actors are cast as characters. There’s no doubt that the show provides a great stress relief and leaves audience feel completely entertained and exhilarated!

30-year-old Kakioka Tetsuro returns home for the first time in 10 years to save his family’s traditional inn Niji no Ya after he hears that his father has been hospitalized. But he is lost for words when he sees that it has completely changed. The dignity and service of the inn, which boasts a 100-year heritage, has totally vanished. It has transformed into a haunt where employees who are not easy to deal with linger around. There is Terakado Lucy Kazuko, a flamenco dancer who says a stream of offensive things; Kageshima Shunsaku, a germaphobe manager who hates hot springs; Asatsuki Momoyo, the head waitress who is a single mother devoted to her son Ringoro; Ringoro, a boyish employee who loves his mother and unicycle; Uno Kanata, a chef who has a UNO addiction; and Umekoshi Hifuji, an old-timer who has clung on to the inn for 40 years.

The Japanese population’s reaction to the catastrophe of March 2011 has been described as “stoic” by the Western media. The Japanese code of conduct is indeed deeply rooted in their Buddhist traditions, and young filmmakers Tim Graf and Jakob Montrasio observe in detail what this means for the people and their religion. At graveyards, in temples, at monasteries and with families, they question the impact this triple affliction has had on the lives and beliefs of the inhabitants. How deeply do their beliefs affect their grieving? What role do the monks play in assisting people with their grief? And, what effects has this enormous catastrophe had on their religious rituals? SOULS OF ZEN inserts the events of March 2011 into the context of traditional Zen Buddhism, examining Japan’s religiousness and the beliefs of those practising it at a crucial turning point.

In a time long before Okada, Naito and Omega, New Japan Pro Wrestling were deep in the red, producing an awful wrestling product and being compared to the last days of WCW. Their founder Antonio Inoki throws a Hail Mary and brings ex-WWE main eventer, NFL washout and soon to be MMA star Brock Lesnar over to carry the company and be their champion...needless to say, things do not go according to plan.

Set in the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo, the tragic theme of the film is the destruction of millions of lives in the 13 years before Manchukuo collapsed with Japan’s World War II surrender in August 1945, and the years of suffering it brought in its wake.

Music/Musical - This video travelogue showcases of the music of Japan which blends western styles like jazz, rock and blues. From the goofy, high-stakes world of teen pop, to a look at a master shakuhachi (traditional flute) player, to old-line music hall shows, SUKIYAKI AND CHIPS demonstrates the dizzying spectrum of Japanese music.

After a Kyowakai member is killed, detectives Shima and Hayami investigate the case, which is connected to recent unsolved murders. Kyowakai also launches their own investigation to avenge their comrade, intertwining their efforts with the police. The case involves a large organization framing Kyowakai.

So what if... what if a brash American naval officer and a young Japanese girl met and fell in love? How would they communicate? (Certainly not in Italian!) In POP’s most ambitious production to date, Artistic Director Josh Shaw’s long-time dream of a bilingual Madama Butterfly comes to life at The Aratani Theatre in Little Tokyo. With a new libretto by Josh Shaw and Eiki Isomura, all Japanese roles will be sung in Japanese and all American roles will be sung in English.
