Somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the Czech provinces, a handful of people come together: a paranoid prison guard, his hypochondriac neighbour and the latter’s silent, despairing wife, a lovesick nightclub manager and a stripper who is a single mum.

A Lebanese filmmaker (Karim) travels from New York to Beirut to conduct research for a film that he wants to make about blind children in the mountains of Lebanon. He arrives to Beirut with a condition that had been affecting his eyes and causes him to go straight into surgery, temporarily blinding him with patches covering his eyes. He uses the healing time to reflect, write and spend time with his family. The filmmaker then begins to visit the blind institute where he will conduct his research and attempts to cast someone to play himself in parallel, which doesn't go as planned. Little does the institute know that Karim has no treatment to pitch but continues to visit the classrooms and attend in order to find his characters.

Sophie, a young employee, gets raped on her way back from work and realizes some time later that she is pregnant. She does not want to keep the baby but abortion is illegal. Who can she tell? She first keeps her secret to herself but Jacques, her boyfriend, notices something is the matter with her and manages to make her talk. When he learns about her lot, he advises her to let her mother know. First, the distressed Sophie is unable to as she feels too low but, at long last, she does it. Sophie's mother, who immediately sympathizes with her daughter, undertakes to find a way out, why not a in a London clinic?
