Mitu and Elena get to know each other in the course of a vodka drinking contest and discover that they are both dissatisfied with the status quo. Mitu is about to begin military service and Elena is to be married to a man she does not love. They decide they are meant for each other and plan on a different future, one that is on a collision course with the authorities, and start a mad affair.

Endstation offers the American viewer tantalizing glimpses of busy, bustling mid-1930s Vienna. Otherwise, this minor yarn of an amorous streetcar conductor is strictly formula material. The film benefits from the star power of Paul Horbiger, resplendently garbed in an elaborate conductor's uniform. Also worth noting is the performance of Maria Andergest as the woebegone hatmaker whose fate is inextricably linked with hero Horbiger. Incidentally though the direction is credited with one E. W. Emo, Paul Horbiger actually called most of the shots on Endstation.

A mosaic of people trying to survive while trapped in their roles in a dog eat dog world. Through the people, a portrait emerges, the face of this place that is that of the country. A mixture of languages, religions, locals and foreign refugees. A gunpowder barrel that has exploded spreading fear, racism, aggression and violence.

The Kreuzberg district of West Berlin is home to foreign workers - Greeks and Turks who are struggling for a better future, while trying to maintain their national identity. The lives, problems and collective political action of the Gastarbeiters are explored in this great documentary by Giorgos Karypidis, who for a while had also lived and worked as a director in Berlin for the public television SFB.

In Georgia, in the tiny Didube bus station, characters flow into Niko’s veterinarian pharmacy. They are not really customers, some of them come in by mistake. The faded poster, with its cows that have turned blue over time, is the only trace of an activity connected to animals. The store, its counter overflowing with packaging and other useless things, could have been filmed in another era. But time stands still here, and it really is the Georgia of today that we find in this snapshot of the nonetheless incessant activity at the station. Nodar’s refrain, accompanied by his guitar, paces and pushes the film forward, in fits and start, according to the arrivals and departures of the buses headed for other destinations that are perhaps more rooted in the modern word.

German romance

In this captivating, jaw-dropping documentary, filmmaker Itai Anghel spent nearly a month with the people of Ukraine during the siege on Kyiv. From the day before the invasion, when its residents did not believe they were in Putin's sights - to quickly rallying to protect their nation, and to fighting in battle. This documentary shows rare images, voices, and stories of people in Bucha, Irpin, and Gorenka, weeks before they became internationally known for the worst of reasons. Although focusing only on Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, the Israeli identity of the crew led to unexpected and dramatic encounters. As Ukraine has a Jewish president, the expectations from Israel were high; and as the war intensified, Ukrainians' disappointment with the Jewish state grew. "I don't feel that he's (former Israeli PM Bennett) wrapping himself in our flag," said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Anghel in Kyiv.
