The film is both a representation of the installation elements (tiled mosaics of images projected on four walls and the ceiling of a gallery) and a record of the installation / performance, with footage of the installation in situ with Kluge seated within it reading out his texts. It's dedicated to Hans Richter and begins with an account of a 1975 meeting with the great experimental director, and goes on to reflect on the simultaneity of film history and the nature of art (the bond between epoch).

"Duchamp is certainly as complex as Joyce and to do something about him, I tried to dedicate to him this small film poem, using only a few images of images of his work, taken always from books and catalogues (that are made of typographic ink). For example, blackening in the spokes of a wheel, allowing regular slits, transforming it in this way into a true external shutter, that came to substitute for the missing one of my movie camera. A bicycle wheel that becomes cinema and vice versa. This is the DVD version of the video event held at Loft Plus One in Shinjuku on September 10th, supervised by Chiaki Konaka. 5 presenters gathered with "truly scary films" they had discovered. The DVD includes "Home Movie", "Honeymoon", "Blue Film", "Psychic", "Telekinesis Experiment" and "Reverberation".

Non-binary film maker Toni Karat invited queer and sex-positive people of the ‘Berlin porn bubble’ for this impressive documentary about narcissism and self-love. In authentic and touching self-reflective interviews ten protagonists who are as diverse as possible – lesbian, gay, queer, trans, non-binary and often over 50 – tell their sexual stories and contemplate their personal journeys and struggles. It’s an almost philosophical little masterpiece with a lot of honesty and authenticity on both sides of the camera.

I was commissioned to make the trailer for the Images Festival on the occasion of their 30th anniversary, and so opted to do a deep dive into their archives to assemble a collage (in chronological order) of the images (and people) of Images. Music by Karl Fousek

A film on exile, revolution, landscapes and memory, Anabasis brings forth the remarkable parallel stories of Adachi and May, one a filmmaker who gave up images, the other a young woman whose identity-less existence forbade keeping images of her own life. Fittingly returning the image to their lives, director Eric Baudelaire places Adachi and May’s revelatory voiceover reminiscences against warm, fragile Super-8mm footage of their split milieus, Tokyo and Beirut. Grounding their wide-ranging reflections in a solid yet complex reality, Anabasis provides a richly rewarding look at a fascinating, now nearly forgotten era (in politics and cinema), reminding us of film’s own ability to portray—and influence—its landscape.
