Silent film.

This video self-portrait draws inspiration from the storytelling tradition of A Thousand and One Nights, in which extraordinary characters become commonplace, and Georges Pérec’s infamous book Je me souviens (I Remember), which collected the remembrances of an entire generation in France. The artist’s voice emerges to claim its autonomy amid a social realm in which the collective supersedes the individual.

The film begins with a grandmother reading a story to a small child before tucking them into bed. No sooner has the mite fallen asleep than they begin dreaming of an angel standing over their bed and whisking them off to a land of giant toys. The kid wanders around for a bit before being led away by a lady who takes them to a forest where other young ladies dressed as butterflies dance around a bit.

Pascal Lamorisse is the son of filmmaker Albert Lamorisse. He is also the little hero of some of his father's films (White Mane, The Red Balloon and Stowaway in the Sky). Over the years, Albert Lamorisse, who took his son on all his shoots, sought to transmit his expertise and his passion for filmmaking, even on his last film, The Lover's Wind. There is something in the story of Pascal Lamorisse that touches on a fabulous story: it is the story of the transmission of cinema from father to child.
