The farming villages that exist throughout Tohoku are known for their rice production but struggle with cold-weather crop damage. Many who rely on the single crop this land produces end up leaving their villages to earn money. At the same time, innovative work has progressed with im- proved adaptation of rice beds to the environment. The film also features people who have cleared land for dairy farming and regions where large-scale land reclamation projects have been undertaken.

Located in the northeastern corner of Aichi Prefecture, Tomiyama Village has suffered from a shrinking population since the construction of Sakuma Dam left much of the village submerged (in 2005 Tomiyama was incorporated into Toyone Village). This film documents the mikagura festival, a tradition practiced in this region since the 15th century that combines the Shinto performing arts of yudate and kagura in praying for rebirth and purification.

On 27 February 1987, residents of Shui Yuan Village barricaded the front gate of LCY Chemical Corp factory, who was polluting the groundwater. On the 100th day of their protest, Hsinchu Mayor promised to have police stationed there. But the factory tried to secretly ship out their product. Pushed to the limit, the villagers built a wall with concrete and vowed never to be fooled again.

A film about a village with the poetic name Svetlana, which is located two hours from St. Petersburg. It was built by volunteers more than twenty-five years ago for people with disabilities of physical and mental development, doomed to special psycho-neurological boarding schools of a closed type. Many of them, before they got to the village, could not connect even two words, they sat at home, within four walls. Svetlana avoids the words "disabled" or "sick", preferring to call such people "guys". They do not do miraculous healings and special trainings here, the diagnosis is not important here. Here the children simply create the conditions for a normal human life. Healthy and sick communicate on an equal footing, work together, put on performances and run a joint household.
